FORTEPAN MASTERS Collective Photography in the 20th Century Selected by Szabolcs Barakonyi

Fortepan Masters was on the shortlist of Les Rencontres de la Photographie’s 2022 Book Awards with 14 other excellent books in the historical book category and won the Hungarian Design Award 2022 in the Visual Communication category. In 2022 we also received the Mihály Gera award – the award is for an outstanding album presenting the most beautiful pictures by Hungarian or international authors, created in the past five years.

The nearly seven hundred-page photo book Fortepan Masters – Collected Photography in the 20th Century – Selected by Szabolcs Barakonyi, inspired by the archives of Fortepan contains 333 Fortepan images. The images in this publication are not based on narratives and do not follow a thematic or chronological system, but rather the fine art and visual aspects dominated the selection and arrangement. The image stream is not broken by captions, we find relatively little text in the book.

Fortepan Masters figurait parmi les finalistes des Prix du Livre 2022 des Rencontres de la Photographie, aux côtés de 14 autres excellents ouvrages dans la catégorie « Livre historique », et a remporté le Prix hongrois du design 2022 dans la catégorie « Communication visuelle ». L’ouvrage a également reçu le prix Mihály Gera 2022, qui récompense un album exceptionnel présentant les plus belles photographies d’auteurs hongrois ou internationaux, réalisées au cours des cinq dernières années.

Le livre photo de près de sept cents pages « Fortepan Masters – Collected Photography in the 20th Century – Selected by Szabolcs Barakonyi », inspiré des archives de Fortepan, contient 333 images de Fortepan. Les images de cette publication ne sont pas basées sur des récits et ne suivent aucun système thématique ou chronologique. L’art et les aspects visuels ont dominé la sélection et l’agencement. Le flux d’images n’est pas interrompu par des légendes ; le texte est relativement peu présent.
